INDEX challenged ZABRA to create a new work in response to the theme of this edition of the biennial, “Power,” developed during an artist residency at gnration. In Jeffthielmusk®, a name that unites three iconic figures of technological utopia—Jeff Bezos, Peter Thiel, and Elon Musk—into one, the duo explores how the fiction of the future becomes an instrument of power, how the fascination with the impossible creates contemporary cults, and how the promise of technology, through the use of AI, can function as a mechanism of social control. Through performance, technology, and a touch of irony, the work confronts the tension between the allure of speculation and the harshness of reality, between the collective dream and individual rationality. Inviting us to question the price of believing in the inevitability of technological progress, this artistic proposal challenges us to reflect on the human, social, and political costs of succumbing to the promises of speculative delusions.
