ZONE OF AFFECTION
anual interactive exhibition
Annual group exhibition that highlights the technological tools that played crucial roles in the most significant investigations and creations of the researcher-artists at the center.
Group exhibition by ZABRA that highlights the technological tools that played crucial roles in the most significant investigations and creations of its artists throughout 2023. During these days, the audience had the opportunity not only to contemplate but also to experience and interact with these innovations.
João Pedro Fonseca with 3D scanning; Carincur with Virtual Reality; Filipe Baptista with infrared camera-modulated microphones; and Lua Carreira with motion sensors. The artists freed themselves from exclusive veneration of the human and considered it a hypothetical construction, an open space for navigation and intervention, creating zones of affection where they established connections between their flesh-bodies and the technologies explored. The use of these technologies challenged the artists to shed anthropocentric beliefs and required them to stop anchoring human meaning according to the physics that proclaims it, in favor of the metaphysics that inflames it, making it an aspect of a larger, interconnected system.
This exhibition does not symbolize the end of the year, but a continuation of the path ahead. Continuing to see affections as a construction of our existence, and being invaded by affectivity, we will continue to create, driven by the force and desire to be connected, to communicate, to affect, and to be affected.
